Interview with Florence (Set Stylist)
Where are you from and what did you do before joining Rimagine?
I was born and raised in Paris, France. No matter what people think about Paris -and its arrogant inhabitants - I truly believe that Paris is one of the best place where to learn about style, creativity and class. It is everywhere to see, to feel. Whenever I go back, I need to take possession of the city again by just walking hours long through all my favorite streets. Both my parents were freelancers, working in advertisement: so I basically grew up in photo and film studios. Therefore, I could not consider doing another job than the one I am doing right now… and that I have been doing 15 years now in Paris, New York, Munich and now Shanghai.
What's your job and how does a normal day look like?
The first step is made together with the account manager, giving some feedback regarding budgets, prop costs, timing and casting. After that, comes the creative part together with the Photographer. For Deco or Still Life shootings, we are usually a very tight team and because we've been working together quiet long already, we know each other style and expectation pretty well. We can work better, faster and more efficiently.
What's important to be a good stylist?
Being professional and being some sort of a perfectionist, for all clients, no matter if small or big. I think it's essential to stick with these rules no matter what.
What do you like about your job?
Frankly, everything. But what I like the most is when I finally get to see through the camera the image I had in my head and wanted to achieve.
What is it like to work at Rimagine?
Rimagine is the best mix of people with different ethnic backgrounds I've seen in a long time: Chinese, German, French, Canadian, American, Swedish, .. all working together and getting each other influences. And it all works really great!
They also have the best Cappuccino in town.
Which people or artists inspire you?
The colors of Matisse, the architectural style of Le Corbusier, the pure lines of Scandinavian design, the world of David Lachapelle and the evening dresses of Christian Lacroix or John Galliano.
What do you like about Shanghai?
It is dynamic: another city that never sleeps and has a huge potential.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Being with my family, doing sports and having great moments with my friends, good food comes next.
