Interview with Suzan (Graphic Designer)
Where are you from and what did you do before joining Rimagine?
I am from Germany/Bosnia. I lived in Munich the last 8 years. If you do not know Munich, do not worry about it too much, there is nothing really interesting to see, except the Pinakothek. After I visited an art school for one year, I decided to learn something with more...well lets say where I am not getting bored to death. I graduated from the multimedia and communication academy and worked almost 4 years for an advertising agency in Munich.
What’s your job and how does a normal day look like?
I work in the creative department as a Graphic Designer. Actually there is no normal day. Every day is different. Sometimes I illustrate, the other day I compose and another day design. That is the reason why I love the job. You never know what is expecting you in the morning when you step into the studio
What is important to be a good graphic designer?
There is no good or a bad graphic designer. There are different graphic designers. The most important thing in my job is to find your own style. To work on it and try to put your personal touch in every work, as good as you can. And if you succeed in it you can rail yourself an artist.
What’s your specialty?
I am pretty good in making illustrations. It is amazing what effects you can create with Illustrator, but I actually still prefer the sketch block and a pencil over the mouse.
What is your favorite place in China and why?
The forbidden city. When I took the first step through the door it was overwhelming. You can feel the spirit of all the decades. It is like magic.
Which people or artists inspire you?
Yoshitomo Nara, Edward Hoppers paintings with the loneliness and sadness themes are timeless, Edgar Allan Poe.
If you could master one skill, what would that be?
To speak as many languages as possible. I would like to speak Hawaii-nish. It is for me the most beautiful language and unfortunately almost lost. Another one is Japanese, Hebrew, Arabic and Chinese. Which I am going to study.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
As my all time favourite Hendrix said once: "It is great to sit and dream!"
